Description

Recording the evolution of tidal height and water surface agitation in estuaries and seaports.

Challenge

Researchers at AZTI, the Basque oceanographic research centre, needed to analyze real-time data as well as the temporal evolution of sea level across three significant parameters:
◦ Astronomical tide.
◦ Meteorological tide (storm surge).
◦ Harbor agitation.
The goal was to anticipate and warn of undesired berthing scenarios and pilot operations within the port, improving understanding of the effect these parameters have on the safety, operation and navigation of the inner harbor. Data collection focused on determining sea level behavior enables the characterization of coastal flooding risk based on the data obtained.

Solution

Installation of a radar level sensor together with an ISURLOG-NB datalogger with NB-IoT connectivity and cloud data via the IsurDash platform.
